es223 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Hi, first post here, posing this question to many friends as well but it's a decision that requires so much research. I'll be applying for the Fall '13 semester. I cannot decide whether or not to pursue a PhD in International Relations, Hispanic Cultures, or Spanish. I'd like to have research jobs, tenure tracks, public sector jobs open to me once I complete the research program. I love Spanish, I love Portuguese. I love politics and philosophy involved in the positivist theories of international relations. I actually feel I'd have something to add to that latter bit, while the others I'm just totally immersed in. Teeny tiny CV: In 2009 I graduated with a BS in Political Science and a BA in Religious Studies after studying abroad in Spain from an unremarkable state school. A few months after returning home from Spain, I moved to Argentina to teach and study for two years, I began that experience with two months in Chile, earning my TOEFL certification. I have the highest Spanish Language certification available: C2 DELE. I developed, advertised, sold and operated a seminar on parliamentary debate in Buenos Aires (sold to big businesses). Tons of professional reviews. This year I am working as a Spanish and Curriculum Extension Teacher at a middle school while completing my Master's thesis in Bilingual and Multicultural Education (bad master's degree track if you ask me, but I'm defending my thesis in May). I'm hoping my unremarkable state school will let me teach Spanish this summer or coming Fall, or at least do the online gig. Lobbying my old advisers beginning today Anyone wanna toss some input my way, point me in the right direction on where to research or how to go about researching my current pending decision? Anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if this is posted to the wrong board. Eric
