How long you are supposed to get news after interview?

After an interview with a professor, how long are you supposed to wait until you should get a result? If you have no news back in that long time, it usually indicates that the professor has already chosen sb else.

It depends on the school, I think. I am interviewing at one where a current student indicated I would likely know within a week or so after the interview. Another school told me that I wouldn't hear anything for a month, since the admissions committee won't meet until about four weeks after our interview. Each school may approach the application/admission process with their own procedures and timelines.

I agree with the C.M.I - the school I'm interviewing at said on their website (or I read somewhere) that admission offers are made the week after the interview, so I'm glad. I would say that it's fair to ask during the interviews, in a casual manner, when admittance letters might be sent.

It's pretty hard to say. I had an interview in early January and they told me I had to wait until end of February. However, they sent me decision letter one week after the interview..So I may only say...good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to ask during the interview, and the professor didn't mention that either... :(

I think the longer you're left waiting, the less likely the outcome will be positive. Schools, jobs etc. my experiences have always been that you hear quickly if its a yes and it takes much longer to get the no. Of course if there is a specific date given when information is released, then that's when you'll hear.
