bkiag1 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) Not saying I got into all these, just wondering what people would pick Edited February 11, 2012 by bkiag1
Aj Ws Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Completely depends on what you are interested in doing, they're all amazing schools. You just need to find the supervisor and project that are best for you.
newms Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Is Harvard in the same league as the other four for engineering? As Aj Ws said, depends on which would be the best research fit for you.
Aj Ws Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Harvard's engineering program is very small so it is not as well known as the other schools listed. However, the labs they do have are excellent. If your interests match up well with a group at Harvard, the quality of research and funding would certainly be similar to the other schools. If you're just looking for a school with a wide breadth of projects to hopefully find something after you get admitted, it is probably not the best place to go.
CanuckBoy Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Totally depends on the fit (group, supervisor, environment, and project) at that point.
AbaNader Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 (edited) Depends on your area but Caltech and Stanford are really top notch both in terms of research quality but also in terms of the education you will likely receive. The former more than the latter IMHO. Edited February 12, 2012 by AbaNader
lolnumbers Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 out of curiosity while i was applying to schools i went to the websites of ~30 civil/environmental departments and took counts of where their professors got their phds. berkeley produced the most professors (stanford, illinois and mit were 2nd, 3rd and 4th), but when you considered the size of the department caltech outperformed everyone, and it wasn't even close. fdsa Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Wow, stanford is more popular than MIT, didn't expect that one
szy Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I'm kinda taken aback by the stanford results. Not to say it's not a good school ( of course not ) but I have heard some not so appreciable things about their MS programs ( cough cash cows cough ). And I'm not surprised by Caltech at all, they are pretty.......what's the technical term ....... badass.
eesj Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I go to Stanford at the moment (and love the enviromnment they provide us), but my rankings would be: 1)MIT 2)Caltech 3)Stanford, UCB (I wanted to go to UCB, but Stanford is 20mins from where I live) 4)Harvard
