40404 Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 I am an international student and I am planning to finance my MA thru student loans. Anyone here know how to go about it? I know of a friend who took out loans via Citibank for her MA, she's paying it back now. However, the last time I checked NYU's Intl student link, the CitiAssist Loan program has been terminated already. What loans are available to Intl students? I know you're supposed to have a US citizen as a guarantor for you to be eligible. Any thoughts?
JustAnotherModernGuy Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 040404 Can you clarify your situation a bit more? While I have advice for Americans looking to borrow money to fund their overseas MA's (I am an American who took out loans for my MA in England), it seems this advice would not be of any help to you. What country are you coming from? If you post additional information someone is bound to offer a few words of advice. Best, JAMG
40404 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 Hi, I am from the Philippines and I heard from a friend who took out loans with a US citizen (relative) as her guarantor. I was wondering if the situation is a bit dim now in terms of borrowing money due to the recession and all..
galatea Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 JAMG Do you have any information on what kinda loans I would be eligible for? I am a US citizen applying to US schools but I live in India.

I'm no expert, but I don't think you'll be treated any differently than other US citizens when it comes to loans or applications (though mailing any forms back and forth will certainly be extra postage). My only advice (if you are starting the application process) is make sure you plan ahead and register for the GRE's (particularly the subject exams). I know you can take them overseas, but they aren't offered as frequently (or in every city). Good luck! Best, JAMG
