yeah, my profs actually said it would be better for me to get a MA before applying to phd programs so I can go to higher ranked schools, provided I do well. Also I am switching fields so it will give me a better foundation in the program I want to get into, which would be anthropology.

CUNY also has a similar program. It's a Masters in Liberal Arts Studies and offers a wide range of research focuses. I am not sure what your research interest are, but this may also be a good fit for you and likely be half the cost of going to NYU for a masters. Also, at NYC schools (NYU, Columbia, CUNY, Stony Brook, etc) you can take classes between schools, which is a good way to network.
