Hillary Emick Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 (edited) I interviewed at my top choice back in January. My interview was set up over a month before the school's interview weekend because my POI is on sabbatical and that was the only time he was going to be in town for the interview. They told me that I could expect to hear back from them in the first week in March after they'd interviewed all of their other top candidates. So now that their interview weekend is approaching, would it be appropriate for me to send out an email expressing my continued interest? I would like to keep my name fresh in their memory as they start interviewing all these other folks, but the last thing I want to do is look needy or be a pain in the ass. Pros, cons? We regret to inform you Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 They told me that I could expect to hear back from them in the first week in March after they'd interviewed all of their other top candidates. i think you should relax and just wait it out.
CarlieE Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I agree with WRTIY.. It's not quite the beginning of March yet. I'm sure that whatever impressions were made during the interview were duly noted, and I'm sure you made it a point to be memorable in a really good way. They'll remember you. I wonder if adcomms basically have decided who they like/dislike at the time of the interviews, but give it a few weeks to kind of mull over the funding ie. which students gets how much...

Hillary Emick Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 I am waiting it out. Not sure I am relaxing, but I am waiting it out. The anticipation is killing me.
J.Snow Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 When I had an interview a couple of weeks ago I met with a PI who told me (and I'm paraphrasing here) that it was kind of annoying when people asked about their application status, especially when results have been posted on the grad cafe and everyone freaks out. Now, this does not sound like your situation AT ALL, but I have been wondering about gently nudging/bothering people after having this talk. Seems like some posters out there think it is totally acceptable, others like those here, not so much. I totally understand where you're coming from and wanting to remind them of yourself. Maybe you could do it in a roundabout kind of way, like with a follow-up question about the program or something you discussed. AND since your POI is now on sabbatical, you could direct your "question" to a higher up on the adcom... ???
