Last year they began rejecting mid Feb and accepting/waitlisting early March. I don't even know if I want to do PhD right now, and this school of all schools is likely my best fit. I've pretty much given up on UOregon, and the sound of a funded year long MA sounds enticing. I'm actually even a little bit excited at the possibility of moving to Pittsburgh.

Anyone else for CMU?

Hey Julianne- I don't know about CMU notifying schedule but I had a friend who did his MA there and it seemed like a good experience. Good luck!

Thank you, yes, it seems like it would be a dream-come-true sort of program. I'd miss the ocean, but Pittsburgh seems pretty cool for a Rust Belt city. It is also cheaper than living in the NE corridor.

definitely now one of my top choices. i talked the department many months back and they said they defer PhD applicants to the MA so hopefully something good will come of it.

Sweet Jesus this wait is killing me.

Anytime someone posts in this thread, my heart starts pounding.

I realize, I've now probably done the same thing to someone else by making this comment.

I don't know if that's your real name, or a character name from a book or something, but it's pretty awesome.

Me?

Hello fellow CMU hopefuls! Has anyone else applied to the MA rather than the PhD? I applied to the MAPW for Fall 2012 and there aren't any recent discussions about it. From past threads I gather that the MA notifications go out after the PhD ones, so I have a bit of waiting to do yet.

I applied to the MA. It looks like last year they got back to the MAs the same time as the PhD. We will see.

Also, whoever it was that got the PhD acceptance, fess up, brocifer!

I was fortunate enough to receive the acceptance for the Literary and Cultural Studies PhD track. I got a call from David Shumway around 4 yesterday, and we had a 20+ minute conversation during which he outlined some details of the program. Seems like an extremely nice guy, and his current research is very well aligned with what I hope to do. He mentioned they're only taking 3 PhD students this year (though he didn't specify, I'm sure that's for the LCS track). I have roots in Pittsburgh, so I'm thrilled I have the opportunity to go back and study at a great university.

I hope all on this thread make it in, too. Best of luck to you.

Yay! Congratulations! The people in this department seem nicer and prompter than most I've yet dealt with.

It looks like the three PhD LCS slots have been filled. I have no idea how many they take for the MA in the same. Here's hoping.

Just got an acceptance call for the MAPW! I picked a bad day to not wear waterproof mascara; 5 minutes of happy crying and I look like a panda. I hope the rest of you get good news soon as well.

Never, not once, have I seen the feeling of the waiting game summed up so perfectly.

When it's happening it's easy to describe.

Congrats, user_name. Were you notified via email or phone?

got an email, wrote back, got a clearerish email saying a letter is coming. apparently no absolute ranking on the waitlist, so people in my field, don't go here.

the program (what it offers) looks amazing, but i'm not too sure about it being only a year.

Hey guys. I had this place chalked up as an implicit rejection until yesterday; I received a mass email from Kelly Delaney about possible employment at their writing center. Did anyone else (accepted, waitlisted or in the dark like myself) receive the same email?
