leelan10 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Hey all, I have a couple questions. I always feel like I'm so out of the loop with application etiquette in slp. Like many of you all of my apps are in since jan/ feb 15 and now I am playing the waiting game. Most of the schools I have applied to are 5-10+ hrs away from my home so I was unable to make visits to most programs. Do you feel it's too late now to even try to set up visits to check out facilities etc i am getting a break off work so that's why I ask since I now have the time. Also, have you all been contacting programs and asking about decisions etc I haven't heard anything and was unsure if I should give them time or speak to them. Thank you and goodluck!
trina Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 If all your application materials are in and your application is complete, I would probably give it some time before calling the schools and asking if decisions have gone out yet. (Most of the graduate secretaries aren't very helpful in my opinion. But I don't blame them. They must be super stressed this time of the year, and they're probably getting a ton of calls.) It's still only February, and you should be hearing from schools over the next few weeks.. I'm just keeping up with the results survey, and I'll probably only call the schools if it seems like everyone but me has received a decision. As far as visiting schools goes, you might want to wait for acceptances/waitlists, and then visit only those schools so that you can make an informed decision on which offer to accept.. instead of trying to visit all the schools you've applied to. This is really up to you, though. Some schools have open houses for admitted students too, and you'll probably get more information from these visits since everything will be more structured, than if you schedule a visit on your own. Personally, I haven't visited any of the schools I've applied to yet, and I live within 1-2 hours driving distance. I'm planning to visit if and when I get accepted. Hope this helps! trina 1
