MA or PhD for an Int'l French student

Hello everybody,

I need your help and advice. I am French, teaching French as a Fulbright scholar in a small university.

I graduated two years ago with a MA in history. I also have a BA in history.

I applied to a couple a MA and PhD, in French, because I want to teach French in the future.

I got accepted in a MA, but I have to wait to hear about an assistantship.

I also got accepted in a PhD, and they offer me an assistantship.

My question: since I have not studied French literature, do you think it is preferable for me to begin with a MA and then reapply for a PhD or to go for the PhD.

I don't know what to do. I have to admit that the idea of doing a PhD is very exciting and pleasant, I am still quite afraid not to be enough prepared though.

Thank you for your help.
