zhabce Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Has anyone applied to the PhD in English program at WSU? I'm still waiting to hear back and I wondered if anyone has heard anything yet?
engguy Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 i applied last year and didn't hear anything till sometime in mid-march. you could search the results page from last year and see when others heard back. good luck.
nowhereman Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Has anyone applied to the PhD in English program at WSU? I'm still waiting to hear back and I wondered if anyone has heard anything yet? Low quality school. Most dangerous cities. Frankly speaking, you should not have applied there.
liszt85 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I don't really know if its low quality. Maybe it is for CS. I have a professor of English here who is really great at what she does and she did her PhD at Wayne State.
engguy Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Low quality school. Most dangerous cities. Frankly speaking, you should not have applied there. Thanks, wanker. I'm assuming this person knows something about the environment of the school (and it's actually a wonderful campus, IMO) -- and what a CS major has to say about the English program at WSU, I really couldn't tell ya. Go back to your cubicle and crunch code.
nowhereman Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 @engguy: Keep your word. If you feel it's wonderful, that's fine. Perhaps you have a good sense. For me, it sucks. And Detroit is a sucked city.
engguy Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 @nowhereman: if you hate it so much, transfer. if that is impossible for you, "suck it up" -- learn to live with it. enjoy coney island, take long walks in hart plaza, go to a tigers game... hell, go to the final four this weekend. and i always keep my word.
PinkTea Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Well, I had a pleasant experience at Wayne - got my MA there and will be returning for PhD. It's not a party school and the teaching is not pedantic, IMO. Not being an overachiever (GPA 3.4, GRE 1310), I'm content with Wayne. In fact, I got a job with a major pharma company after graduating and stayed for 5 years. As for the city, I love being close to museums and the zoo. And hey, a beaver was spotted near Detroit River a few months ago, the first after 75 years!! There's always something good, if you look for it
