Amathguy Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I am an undergrad at UC Berkeley and have been active in research in both the applied mathematics and economics departments (my two majors). What are some of the things that I can do to 1.) become more familiar with current research in political science and 2.) increase my chances of gaining admission to a top graduate program. My stats are as follows: 3.75 GPA lots of honors math and graduate courses in economics 2 years research assistant to behavioral economics professor at cal received fellowship for undergraduate research and am now completing a thesis on the determinants of sovereign risk in Europe. I would really appreciate some advice and am happy to supply any other relevant details.
RWBG Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 What are your interests within political science? Generally, I think your main thing is going to be reading enough of the political science literature to write a statement of purpose that reflects that you understand what you're getting into. Beyond that, from what information you've provided, your profile seems fairly strong.
Tamboursg'sell Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Why move to PolSci? An econ Phd trains and places you much better. Economists do nearly everything anyways. (Unless you want to become a theorist.)
