redshift Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I've seen a few acceptances to Claremont Graduate's Phd this fall. I too was accepted, and like I think most, received a low financial aid offer. I did my undergrad studies close to Claremont, and can attest many of our faculty were adjuncts currently finishing their doctorate at Claremont. I know that is the general idea, the school helps set you up in a teaching spot around the third year to help offset the high costs compared to other programs. To those who also got into the program (or anyone that knows generally about Claremont) - is this still true? I'm basically just trying to convince myself I'm not crazy to accept that low of a financial offer.
Balatro Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Yes, this is still true according to the people I know at the school currently. I can recall three MDiv students whom I got to know my first year at Yale that are now in their 4th year of a PhD at Claremont -- I know two of them are teaching still and the third was teaching but didn't this year as she recently had a child and took the year off for that. I also believe she's begun working on her dissertation and didn't want the stress of teaching/grading/etc while doing that. I had a philosophy professor in undergraduate who was a CGU graduate that said the school lined up teaching jobs for her, as it did for another philosophy student who is now teaching at UNC-Chapel Hill. foodtruck, craprap, TheHymenAnnihilator and 2 others 1 4
