wasistdas Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 The good news: SSP decisions are up and I am done with this whole waiting game The bad news: waitlisted at Georgetown
yo_yo86 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Bummer. At least you got into some other quality programs. Are you likely going to LBJ (I know you said your wife got into a PhD program at UT)?
MYRNIST Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 (edited) I got straight up rejected. First negative surprise of the admissions season for me - I didn't think I would get into Yale (based on fit) or WWS (based on that it's WWS). But I thought Georgetown was in the bag. Oh well! WHAT?!?! If there was anyone on this board I expected a substantial aid package for, it was you. Crazy, Crazy.

Wow, that is surprising. At least you got some great other options (at less than sticker prices too).
debellocivili Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 For those admitted, did any of you get fellowship information in your letters? The email I received mentioned nothing about fellowships or whether I had been denied in the first place.
wasistdas Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Bummer. At least you got into some other quality programs. Are you likely going to LBJ (I know you said your wife got into a PhD program at UT)? I felt bad for a bit as Georgetown was the only school I allowed myself to become "emotionally invested in," but then realized I was acting like a real a$$hole with the luck I have had. The decision is between LBJ vs. SAIS vs. the dark-horse Bush School. All three are viable options, but very hard to choose from as, like you said, we are choosing for two people as my wife has also been accepted to UT-A, TAMU and a school in DC.
Burnt Orange Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 @godlessgael, I am in the same boat. My wife and I are choosing for two people as well. It looks like our best options are going to be UT and IU and I am strongly leaning towards LBJ at the moment. As far as LBJ goes - UT is considered one of the original Public Ivies, a major research university, tons of resources across the schools, departments, etc. big time sports, relatively low cost of living, vibrant campus atmosphere, and UT has a huge alumni network across the world in every sector of society. While LBJ places it's folks mostly in Austin or DC, I am confident that there are enough UT grads around the country and world to make a difference. I think SAIS presents a tough choice for you. I've learned when two people are applying to grad school together, nothing is completely equal across universities and programs. What impact will choosing DC have on your wife's education? Something to consider if you haven't already. Either way, it's a great predicament to have!
Apill Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Hey guys. I haven't posted in this thread yet, since I mostly applied to PhD programs, but I was admitted into the SPS studies program today. I haven't heard about fellowships or anything yet though. I am definately seriously considering going to Georgetown now.
grtheman Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I got accepted into MSFS, but no mention of funding or fellowships in the acceptance letter or initial email. I emailed them to clarify if this means I have received no merit-based aid.
debellocivili Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 They announced through their twitter feed they're releasing financial aid information tomorrow.
MYRNIST Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 WHAT?!?! If there was anyone on this board I expected a substantial aid package for, it was you. Crazy, Crazy. Wow, that is surprising. At least you got some great other options (at less than sticker prices too). Thanks for the back-up. I'm not too upset about it since going in GTown and GW were my 2 top schools (out of ones I thought I would actually get in to), and given GTown's rep for fin-aid and my offer from Elliott I still would have just gone to GW. But like godlessgael, I also got a little invested in SFS. Oh well, moving on!
Apill Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Question: does anyone know if you can switch from one program in the Walsh school to another if you're admitted into one of them? I know you can do this in the Elliott School.
jjclarkcuse624 Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 The only school I applied to was Georgetown SSP and I got in. I received a letter stating that I received no financial aid, although I did not request any as I work full-time and my company has a tuition reimbursement program. Hope to meet you guys/gals in the Fall.

That is odd you got into Yale but rejected at SSP. Totally the opposite for me (Yale rejected, SSP accepted). It's all a big mind game!
SnakePliskin207 Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I just recieved notification that I was admitted into the MA in Security Policy Studies program at GWU. I think the Georgetown and GWU admitted students day is the same time (10 April). I will probably just visit Georgetown on 10 April.

Was that off waitlist or had you just not heard back from them until now?
SnakePliskin207 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Was that off waitlist or had you just not heard back from them until now? DCB, I just heard from them last week. I originally applied to the GWU International Affairs program. I was contacted by the admissions department as they wanted me to explain to them more about my language proficiency. Having only taken language classes in high school and one in undergrad, I knew that my language wasn't the strongest. They recommended that I transfer my admissions packet from International Affairs to the Security Policy Studies program, which I then requested. My packet was "under review" from the SPS admissions board for the last month and they let me know I was in last week.
