no words of acceptance but got an email regarding tuition award

I just received an email saying that I wasn't chosen to receive a merit-based tuition award, but is it possible to get an email regarding funding/scholarship before getting a either acceptance or rejection email or letter?

I didn't hear back from the school for more than a month and still no words on the final decision but got this email on funding.

Does anyone know what is going on?

I also got 2 letters from schools that I applied to about financial aid documents & funding, but no letters of acceptance or rejection yet...

it pretty much means youre in. same thing happened to me last week. a couple days later got a nice letter in the mail
