KittyCat Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Hey Guys. I am a student of computer science (PhD). I would like to volunteer to be a reviewer for a conference. Is it normal to send an email to the general chair of the conference and express my interest? Thank You! KittyCat 1
Benzene Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I don't know about your field, but I know for mine the big conferences recruit student reviewers for certain things (student poster awards, etc.). I signed up for it through a call for volunteers sent out by the conference's student association. I would check the conference website and see if it might have information on how to become a reviewer listed somewhere already.
Gauche Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 In my field, you typically are invited to chair a conference, but it probably doesn't hurt to express interest so they can invite you. I know at the end of one of the regional conferences I attended, the chair passed around a paper where people could leave their contact info if they are interested in chairing a panel next year.
