Portland State History Masters - what does this mean?

I phoned Portland States a few weeks ago inquiring about my application for their history master's program. They told me they were sending letters at the end of March. I called them today to inquire about my application, and they said all the letters have been sent but six. They told me I was one of the six and the person in charge of graduate applications won't be in until Monday!

What does that mean? I see that a rejection letter has been sent on March 22 and an acceptance letter on March 30. Aiiiii I'm going crazy! My alma mater has recently accepted me and they're waiting for me to accept or decline. I've heard that when they take forever to send a letter, it usually means you're rejected.

Maybe they're finalizing funding for those 6, or maybe they are waitlisted applications. That's what I would assume.

This is sort of off topic but when was your department's deadline? Mine was February 1st and I've been waiting for what feels like FOREVER to hear from PSU. I'm glad to know they mailed letters this past week. The anticipation sucks... And all you can really do is wait. ---I know, I'm no help but I wish you the best of luck!

I applied for the history program and our deadline was February 15. I decided to just email the graduate coordinator, as it is already April 1st, he might as well take me out of my misery.

I typed in Portland State Communications and this is the first page of the results survey:

With all the changes to the program, I wasn't planning on staying here for Grad School (I'm currently taking SPHR classes as a Post-Bac). I'm sure the replacement faculty will be fantastic, but Lemoncello, Mandalak, and Chabon are a huge loss to the department.

Received a call from the chair explaining that they are expanding their program for the fall, which opens up 19 spots. I declined, but this is great news for those still hoping to be accepted from the waitlist. Good luck!

I was accepted at PSU. I was not an undergrad or post-bacc there, although I have heard that they do favor their post-baccs.

I sent in my decline notice, but I think if you're on the waitlist you probably have a little while to wait. The acceptances went out so recently. I'd at least give it until after the 15th.

Thanks for sharing that with me. That's strange communication studies never came up in the results but I am sure letters were sent around the same time. I have a feeling I got rejected.... Which sucks because psu was my safety school. I live on the east coast, so the mail takes almost a week to get to me.

I finally heard from the graduate coordinator, I got in! Don't lose hope isawstars, the deadline is later at PSU than most other schools.
