Dear friends, I hope all of you are well. Here is my conundrum: I applied to quite a few PhD in English programs (I will be working in Eighteenth-Century British Literature). After a few acceptances and a lot of rejections, I have dwindled my options to two schools: Fordham University and University of Massachusetts Amherst. Again, my field of study is 18th Century British Literature. I am confused as to which school I should go to.

I live in NYC so Fordham would be closer but UMass is ranked higher. The funding is pretty much the same. I would really appreciate any insight and information regarding this matter.

Unless you want to save money through living with family you may have in NYC or are attached (in a relationship), it sounds like it's worth going to Amherst.
