ab2003 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) If a graduate coordinator doesn't even reply to you...should you assume the worst (rejection)? The telephone is out of question - whenever I call it says that her voicemail is full and she hasn't bothered to empty it for the past 6 months. I've been emailing her for the past 6 months and in the beginning she would get back to me within hours, sometimes minutes to answer my questions. Same thing now, she'll respond to meaningless questions immediately, but when it comes to telling me if I got accepted, rejected, or waitlisted...nothing. Wouldn't she at least say something like, "Hey, we're still considering your application." After all, if she reads the other emails, she must read those too, and it's not like the application is free. Am I analyzing too much, or does dodgy behavior like this pretty much mean I'm rejected but they don't even want to bother to let me know. Edited April 11, 2012 by ab2003
RosamundReage Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I generally do not think schools have a problem telling you if you are actually rejected. It sounds that they have not finalized all their offers yet. They may have already sent out the first round offers and are waiting to hear back before cutting others lose. You possibly may be on an unofficial waitlist or maybe they are super late at making any decisions. There are a ton of possibilities other than you have been rejected! Have you tried calling the secretary? They will usually at least answer the phone, but may not have any more information. RosamundReage 1
ab2003 Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) Now that you mention it, Rosamund, it makes sense. I had asked the coordinator if I was able to apply to non-degree seeking status ( as a plan B ) in case the current application doesn't work out. I wanted to make the point that this was my first choice and that I was determined to get in. She hasn't answered that question, so being waitlisted would be the most likely reason for that. Friday is the last day, so we'll see what happens on Friday, the 13th Edited April 11, 2012 by ab2003
margarets Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I doubt the coordinator is authorized to inform you of the decision either way. That, plus the office is probably busy right now, and students/applicants are often not the top priority of admin staff. bluebunny and 247crw 1 1
ab2003 Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 Argh, this is so nerve wrecking. I can't believe that a perfectly sane grown-up such as myself can turn into a needy, illogical kid. I'm not even replying to my friends' texts or phone calls anymore and I've been eating chocolate by the truckload even though I've been slaving away at the gym for weeks. Tell me already if I'm accepted or rejected, stop turning me into an obese hermit!
sansao Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I know what you mean, I'm still waiting on the other half of my applications, now that my first and last choices are out of the way. Thanks for reminding me that the last workday before the deadline is Friday, the 13th. Hopefully my applications don't have an unexpected machete experience from some freak in a hockey mask... haha.
ab2003 Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 Well, I got accepted today. Still no reply from anybody and no big package in the mail today, but lo and behold, this morning their online web thingy said, Congratulations, you've been admitted. Now I'm nervous. How do I accept, am I funded, how do I register, should I get an advisor, which classes should I register for....the battle never ends, does it? But I guess you take it one day at a time. ohhello 1
TropicalCharlie Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Congratulations! Now just go with the flow. Don't sweat the small details until they send you the info. Like you said, one thing at a time. Again, congrats!
ab2003 Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 Thanks. Yeah, I guess I just gotta wait on that big package in the mail that everyone around here is talking about.
prettyuff1 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I'm Glad it all works out for you. Go have a beer and celebrate before the next freak out
