JJMicromegas Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Hello, I am working on MSc from SOAS in Finance major Economic Policy through the U of London External System. I live in Canada and it seems as though no one here has heard of the school, even a few former Brits whom I have told haven't heard about the school. To be honest I am wondering if I picked the right program, or if the school is better known in other parts of the world and amongst people in government, policy, econ, etc. Thanks in advance for any input.

Ladril Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I have heard of it because the school where I did my masters had a program in Africa and Asia Studies. A friend actually went there for a doctorate. I don't think it matters really - all schools of the University of London are excellent.
CarlieE Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I'm in Southeast Asian studies so I have never met anyone who DIDN'T hear of SOAS! It is an excellent school!!! Congrats on getting in there!!!
Olga Childs Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I don't know who you were talking to, SOAS is a very prominent school and one of the large parts of the University of London. I've been to their building on the UOL campus in Bloomsbury, too )) Now, UOL External is a world of its own, I am not going to go into discussion about it now, and I don't know how they administer the SOAS-based program (it differs from program to program) and whether there will be a reference to External on your diploma. But SOAS itself is a reputable school.
JJMicromegas Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Thanks for the comments and feedback. I live in North America and people here tend to have little to no knowledge about international schools. I think this is what has driven my concerns.
rose1 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I am from the US and I have heard of this school, and believe it has a great reputation. I have a friend who just graduated from SOAS and feels she made a great choice!
