PaulaRevere Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Hey guys, so, yes, I admit it - I have never taken a single econ-course in my life...now that we have passed this embarrassing issue - I need your help. Is there anyone out there considering of going to the Elliott School this Fall and does have to take this econ-crash course in advance? I wrote to the school but they could not help me with details, yet. I just would really like to know how much this course is - any ideas?! btw I'm still torn between BU and GWU - I mean, I love BU and Boston but I have to admit I have second thoughts concerning ranking and reputation... Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! If you're considering actually working in IR Elliott is the easy choice. I think the only reason to stay in Boston is to attend Fletcher or if you have some incredible work opportunity that's going to outweigh 2 full years in DC.
OregonGal Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I definitely agree that GWU makes more sense. It's a separate school vs a department, which means it has its own career services staff, support staff, funding, etc. It's also an APSIA member vs affiliate, which besides rankings is a pretty good gauge of how much the university has invested in the program, and the icing on top of the cake is that it's in DC with all the opportunities that come along with that prime location. As for the crash/prep/summer programs, at the schools I was looking at it seems vary between $500-1000 per course. I'm paying $1000 for UCSD IR/PS' summer prep program (I'm taking Quant and Econ).
PaulaRevere Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 Thank you, OregonGal and Coloradical! Ok, so the costs are ok - I had a nightmare of larger sums... Another (stupid) question - what if I fail this prep course? I mean, I was not bad at maths at school , but...you never know...!? (Well, the funding for BU is better for me when I compare the two - that is one of my reasons...)
OregonGal Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Well, presumably if it's a requirement of admission you have to pass or not be admitted. That's what my deal is--provisional upon successful completion of the summer prep program or relevant university coursework.
