dancer1 Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 I have been accepted into the Masters program for dance at both the Univeristy of Arizona and Case Western Reserve. Both have offered me full funding, Case has also offered a stipend. For most Arizona would be the obvious choice, the dance department is stellar and I was thrilled to get in. My reasons for floundering are; 1. I am married and a stipend would make things a bit easier financially 2. Case has the curriculum focus I am interested in (dance science) and 3. Arizona is much more well known and could help me get a job after graduation. Thoughts?? I have until Monday April 23 to decide. Thank you!
shayens Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 (edited) I would go with Case, especially because they have the curriculum focus that you are interested in. You shouldn't choose a school just because of prestige, if they don't have what you want to do, then why spend the extra time and money getting an MFA if you are not doing the focus you really want to do. A Masters program is so you can study something you're passionate about, not just to get a job. Plus the stipend will help you a lot, you might regret not taking that especially when you are forced to work at Arizona to make ends meet, when you would rather be pursuing what you want to do. The only plus you have for Arizona is well know and the POSSIBILITY of getting a job after graduation. If you're good at what you do, you'll still get a job, you might have to look harder for one, but you might still have to look hard if you went to Arizona. Just my opinion Edited April 19, 2012 by shayens
dancer1 Posted April 20, 2012 Author Posted April 20, 2012 Thank you for your input Decaf! Update, I found out this morning that I will receive a stipend at AZ, almost as much as Case. I also heard back from a Prof. about research studies and they are willing to facilitate what I want/need. I am pretty sure this has clinched my decision to go to AZ, they have bent over backwards to get me there.
