sebastiansilvac Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I'm finishing sophomore undergrad and I did pretty bad in school this semester I'm hoping with really good grades from now on to graduate FSU with a 3.4 gpa, I know a lot of great graduate business schools have a 3.3 undergrad average. So I'm assuming job experience is very important. Can anyone here share opinions or experiences about this. Just advice in general. (im looking into international business as a graduate). I know it's early to be thinking about this but i'm worried i might've blown it this semester. I had been thinking about the international business program at UM but i don't know where i'm standing. What are the bigger factors when applying to grad school? How long should I wait after graduating college? Thanks in advance and let me know if i should check out another forum. Sebastian. Behavioral Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 #1 factor into getting into a (good) MBA program is work experience. Any decent school will require 3-4+ years to be admitted (except for some very exceptional cases coming straight out of undergrad or for those with absolutely terrific work/internship experience).
Denzera Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 I second that. Any decent MBA program worth attending will strongly prefer 3-4 years of work experience. And even with those who take people out of undergrad, those students find that employers treat them more at the Analyst level (i.e. as if they were just leaving undergrad) than the Associate level (where MBAs with a couple years' experience tend to get hired into). The exceptions - and there are a half-dozen people who go to harvard business school every year straight out of undergrad - are usually unbelievable-level rockstars. e.g., started a technology business while in college and sold it for millions, took over running the family business at age 14 while still going to school and built it successfully all through college, etc. If you're in that category, you're not asking this question on a message board. Everyone else? Go get a job and show employers that you know how to deliver what they need.
charliep Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Manchester Business School UK has a young potential leaders programme specifically designed for younger individuals with little experience. The school provides opportunities for up to ten very talented high-flyers to take the Full-time MBA Programme. These individuals will demonstrate high potential for rapid career advancement and a track record of using their talent to improve society. Internships and internship mentors are provided as part of the programme and depending on the YPL's performance during the internship, there may be opportunities to progress to full-time positions following successful completion of the MBA. Admissions requirements are: British, First-class bachelor's degree and Less than three years' work experience.
