hockeyguy109 Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 (edited) Hello everybody, So I'm moving away to the city I will get my grad degree in. I'm going in June and school starts in August. I have plenty of money saved up for the summer, but I'm quite worried about not knowing the financial aid situation. I have good credit. Is there ever a case when grad students don't get ANY grants or ANY loans (Govt or Private)? I'm just trying to think of the worst case scenarios before I pack up, move a 1,000 miles away just to hear that I can't get any loans or grants for school......any ideas? Hopefully I'll get SOME help from the school, but if not are people usually able to get private loans etc? Edited May 8, 2012 by hockeyguy109
looking_for_the_rainbow Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Hockeyguy109, unless you have borrowed the limits that the government has on borrowing for school you should be fine. However, you really should look for TA or GA opportunities. If all else fails, try to become an employee of the school and you can have some tuition reduction benefits.

Yes, if you are in default (270 days delinquent) on a Federal loan, have exceeded the borrowing limits ($138,500 aggregate, no more than $65,500 for undergraduate, in Stafford Loans; no maximum on PLUS Loans), have committed an act of fraud involving Federal financial aid, have declared bankruptcy (say goodbye to PLUS Loans), or have a drug conviction that has made you ineligible for Federal assistance.
