GrradStudent Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Hi, I have been accepted at SIPA and Elliot masters of International Affairs and have to make a decision soon. I am Spanish and have a background in journalism (Spanish speaking journalism and only a little of experience in English, although for a very well known media). Money is not an issue because I have a well funded scholarship and some savings, but when I see the most recognised ranking, I wonder if it´s worth paying the extra amount for SIPA. (http://irtheoryandpractice.wm.edu/projects/trip/TRIP%202011%20RESULTS%20US%20RESPONDENTS.pdf). Aside from the ranking, I also consider the powerful Columbia brand on my CV. Elliot´s master may be well valued among the international scholars who responded to that ranking, but I do not know if a survey among recruiters at international media would produce the same result and they are the ones I want to convince after my master. Also, I do not know which city offers the most opportunities for a journalist like me. Considering that my command of English is not perfect, maybe I have more chances with the many foreign media based in DC (Spanish and Latinamerican). On the other hand, if I choose SIPA, I would be able to take some electives at its prestigious school of Journalism. Any suggestion?
