Dear all,

I recently graduated with a degree in anthropology, but I found its disciplinary boundaries/emphasis on ethnography/knowledge production through fieldwork to be unappealing for my graduate research. I am interested in ontology, epistemology, and technologies of the body. My ideal program would contain elements of continental philosophy and critical theory. Thus far, I have found that a number of interdisciplinary programs, including Stanford's MTL, Berkeley's Rhetoric, Duke's literature, and so on, match my interests fairly well. However, I am also curious about programs in philosophy that have strong continental tracks (I found some resources online but would love to get your opinions). I understand that most programs in the U.S. have strong analytic traditions, which I would not be interested in. Any thoughts or insights would be great. Thanks!

There are certainly a lot of sites that rank/compile Continental Departments. Here are a few:

As far as programs listed in the Leiter Report that are good for Continental Philosophy, you might want to check out the site's breakdowns by program specialties:

Keep in mind, however, that the Leiter Report fails to list many VERY good programs in their rankings.

Hope that helps.

I was going to lift off some schools with good continental departments, but those links probably cover them all. :)

However, don't forget that Canada has a few great schools with excellent continental philosophy departments: Ryerson University, where I'm headed, has a couple of fantastic cont. scholars. Also, in their department, the continental/analytic division is not a source of contention, as in most places. Anyway, Guelph also has a really good cont. phil. department. John Russon, one of the current top Hegel scholars is there. University of Toronto has probably one of the best continental philosophy departments in Canada or the USA. Plus, being in Toronto is handy too, as you'll be near such great cont. scholars are John Russon, Graeme Nicholson, and others.

Anyway, best of luck!

I, too, have heard that Warwick especially has a great continental program. I have two friends who did their MA there, and are both currently doing their PhDs at BU. They seemed to like it quite a bit!
