FakMo Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 I have two offers on the table: a sponsored PhD in the UK and a 2-year Junior Professional Associate position (JPA) at the World Bank. Both are great but I need to make a choice. My dream has always been to work in the World Bank but I have also never lost sight of my PhD ambition. I intend to go into academia but after amassing some professional experience, so the PhD is not for teaching in the near term. Which do you think is worth accepting now? Which do you think I can defer and still maintain control over? World Bank JPA or PhD?
AL_borlin Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 hello if it consoles you I have same difficulty as of right now, I have a solid funded Ph.d from two countries and i just got offered a job from a very well reputed worldwide manufacturing organization. I have had 6+ years of industrial experience in proper manufacturing and my work. but my situation is like this I got Ph.d in country where there is significant difference of currency, so even my stipend is about 4 times higher than my to be salary The idea I have proposed for my ph.d is EXACTLY THE SAME PROFILE for the job i have been offered... so there are these two things so what I do ? Please any body guide... I hade made many decision related to business and technology but this seems really hard for me.
lost_0101 Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 If you are a US citizen - TAKE THE WORLD BANK JOB! If you are from the UK it's not as big of a deal (WB jobs are insanely competitive in the US)
