larrywhite Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I saw this unemployment infographic on ycombinator news earlier. It shows that us grads have only a 4.4% unemployment rate while people without a high school degree have unemployment as high as 13.1%. Gives you a little more incentive to keep working on your degree. What do you think?
cajunmama Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I've heard that, too. and if you separate out master's and Phd's as categories, the trend continues.
myrl Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 I'm pretty sure unemployment rates have gone up for people with college degrees too unfortunately. Having "a degree" alone probably isn't going to land you a great job. It's essential to have a PLAN when you go into school, one with realistic goals and expectations. Do some industry research on the realistic job prospects and salaries in the fields you are interested in. Choose a major based off the expectations of actually getting a job when you graduate. Don't just guess!
julez Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 That is true... the unemployment rate is higher. whether you have a degree or not....The key, as i've learnt, is to get as much experience as you can. so while you're in school, do internships...part time jobs...you name it...do it. Recruiters now not only look at grades but your experience. I have heard of this new website that helps grads get jobs or internships anywhere in the world. www.gradgreenhouse.com. It's free, so worth the try.
