Lira Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) Hello everyone. I'm senior undergrad at the university of Michigan, majoring in CMB. I'm planning to apply to the graduate schools this year, but the problem is that my husband works in West Palm Beach FL, and this limits my choice, we've been apart for a while already because of my school, and I definitely want to be close to him during my grad school. Unfortunately there are not too many options in FL, so far I looked into Scripps FL and Max Plank (that just opened). A little about me: I'm not sure what I want to do for my PhD. I currently work in plant molecular biology lab where we study RNA interference and DNA scilencing. I like epigenetics, but I don't want to stay in plant biology. My other concern is that epigenetics involves lots of bioinformatics and genomics which I'm not good with. The lab I'm working in is the only lab I've tried, but I work there for almost two years and I spend there about 25 hours per week during school year and full time during summers. I have solid understanding of what science is and I know that I want to stay in research, however I think that for my PhD program I need a place were i will have a choice and an opportunity to do rotations in several different fields. I realize that geographical limitation is an obstacle, I would appreciate any comments or thoughts about Scripps Florida or any other places in Southern Florida or WPB area that I'm maybe not aware of.
