Asmhan Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Hello, I am an international student, I just finished my masters in TESOL from Duquesne University. I am considering many schools like Georgetown, Colombia, Maryland, ...etc. But all these schools are very competitive. I am sponsored by my government. I have a good GPA, working on GRE, I do not have any published work. I am really anxious about the whole process. Any advice regarding good programs, or things to do to make my application more appealing? Thank you,
jthh Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I think the question is, what do you want to specialize in? Which schools have scholars that you like? What kind of degree do you want? (Columbia Teachers College offers an EdD, for example.)You need to find a place that has people who will be a good fit for you. Applying for these PhD programs is much more a matter of the right fit than a stellar CV, at least in my experience. You don't necessarily have to have a fully formed plan for research, but you probably do have to know what general area you want to be working in and you need to be able to show that you have strong potential for doing good research. Good luck!
Mizzling Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Wish you the best of luck! I'm also applying for Ph.D programs in Applied Linguistics. I was wondering of anyone knew the least acceptable GRE score?
ἠφανισμένος Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Mizzling, institutions often have a minimum GRE score for admissions, but of course that's not the same for each school. If so, it should be stated somewhere on the admissions page of the graduate school you're applying to, if it's not on the department's website.
