weirdwitch Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Hey guys, I'm aiming for admission into Oxbridge or LSE for their M.Sc/M.Phil Econ programs next year. I'm currently in my 3rd(final) year. My grades are decent, but my gre quant is a measly 83 percentile . ANd I cannot retake it because I have way too much course load right now. I just want to know what my chances are, and how badly they can be affected by this score. Verbal (93 %tile) and AWA(4.5) are alright.
TheFez Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Your chances are 65.3% Seriously... how can we answer that with the scant info you have provided. I suggest you go to URCH (Test Magic's) econ forum and post your full profile there for better evaluation. Unless you are looking for folks to comfort you because of a mediocre GRE-Q score which the Grad Cafe folks do a pretty good job at. hustlebunny 1
PhoenixM Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 LORs and SoPs are going to be the heaviest weight on admission decisions and will need to be evaluated before chances could be determined, but you will need to get that GRE quantitative score higher. The GRE may not be significant, but it can weed people out. Since you're going for a program that's heavily based on math, it needs to get into the 50th percentile at the bare minimum (33rd or higher would be better.
TheFez Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 ? Phoenix - Weirdwitch has an 83 percentile score? And 50th percentile would never get you into a competitive econ program. 33rd percentile is lower - not higher... I think you are doing your percentiles backwards. Still --- 83rd percentile is not enough to counteract "decent" grades. I say find the time to study and take it again.
