So this is the corporate world (pro sports, more specifically), but this amazed me, so felt it was worth a share. A repeat applicant finally had it with her ~30th rejection from the Padres and dashed off this letter. (borderline NSFW)

Curious what others think. Grossly unprofessional on her part? Or did the hiring team's blase attitude and gall warrant this? Is it representative of the current job market's unfortunate state of affairs?

For my part, I'm rather amused.

I'm quite amused as well. Her gutsy email reflects the state of mind of most job seekers in this economy. I can imagine how frustrated I would be if I keep getting one rejection after another. While the email is unprofessional, media exposure will probably open up new opportunities for her.

I think the letter was written so that frustration was properly vented but without being seriously offensive (it's not like she made threats or insulted the whole pro sports world in general). In context, it's a fair response to what basically looks like a form letter from the Padres that is intended to look like the manager decided that the author would be a good fit for the "job fair" but really looks like names were just copied and pasted!

I guess there could be a danger that her email would be forwarded out of context to other teams/organizations. But on the flip side, forwarded emails can be edited -- no one receiving a forward could be sure that the words they see were actually written by the original author.

Overall, I think the letter was written so that all bridges with the Padres are definitely burned. But for other teams, some may be offended, but she only needs a couple of organizations to realise what the letter really is in order to get a job. And being (in)famous on the internet will probably be helpful!

Here's another way to respond to a rejection letter (although I think this is pretty old): http://www.chaosmatrix.org/library/humor/reject.html

That's pretty awesome. Reminds me of a thread I started during my app season, and in one of the replies, someone (Bonkers) wrote a "I reject your rejection" letter. Not even sure if she participates in these fora anymore, but I thought it was hilarious and epic:

I'm surprised anyone at the Padre's thought twice about it honestly. I mean, people get pissed off all the time and vent at whoever they think has wronged them. Is this truly the first time someone has written back to complain about spam/form letters? The truly unprofessional thing here, in my view, was the management office using their e-mail list of rejected job applicants for direct marketing. Super un-classy.
