cocoringo Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Hello I have been out of school for eight years and working as a professional musician, but am very curious about the possibility of applying to do an ethnomusicology / history of music PhD at some point in the next couple of years. The problem is that I have no idea where to begin - I am interested in African traditional music of various kinds, as well as American folk music. Anyone have ideas about the most appropriate programs to look at in the US / Canada? Many thanks!
rubose Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I think top programs in ethnomusicology would be UCLA and Indiana.
comp12 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 You might get more responses by posting in the music forum: http://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/81-music/ They have a thread going each year in which musicologists, ethnomusicologists, theorists, composers, and even--on occasion--performers contribute.
