Do I have a chance?

Hello,

I'm a senior communications student and will be graduating this semester in December. I've wanted to be a broadcast journalist since 9th grade. Though my major is in communications, my classes have been very broad. I've only taken one media writing class that required me to write a script for broadcast. Other than that, my classes have consisted of advertising, marketing, graphic design, etc. I don't feel nearly experienced enough to send a resume out to news stations, so I wanted to go to graduate school and specialize in broadcast journalism. I'm wondering if my stats/experience is good enough to get into a j-school - preferably in DC, New York, or Boston.

Here are my stats/experience:

Internship with Fox News - Houston

Writer for college newspaper

3.1 GPA

Good recommendation letters from professors and employers.

Haven't taken GRE yet.

Also, do I need any work experience in the media field prior to applying to j-school? I talked to one news reporter here in Houston and she said she didn't get an internship, but started off as a production assistant (in a smaller town - not Houston) and stayed after hours with reporters/camera operators - they saw her dedication and was offered an on-air job within a 6 months.

Do I have a chance to get into any East Coast schools, such as: CUNY, NYU, American Univ., Boston Univ., etc.? Also, is there anything I can do to better my chances?
