Poirot19 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 Hello, I'm an international student. I took the revised GRE, landed up with a low verbal score. I got 152 (53 percentile, 490 on the old scale.) I want to apply to a Master's course in Computer Science. Do you think my verbal score will hurt my application? I have a decent quant score (163) and AW score. (4.5) I have a good undergrad GPA and have worked pretty hard on the other aspects of my application. But I'm just really, really worried about my low verbal score. I want to apply to top 30 schools. Will a decent AW score offset my low verbal score? Or should I consider applying lower ranked schools based on my verbal scores? I'm really, really worried/confused. Any kind of help will be appreciated.
pemdas Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 as long as your intended major is quant intensive your verbal score above 30% percentile will probably get a pass. you need to concentrate on your other parts of application package, also your quant at 88% is within top 15 percentile rank - so again concentrate on SOP, LORs and other relevant stuff in your application process.
emmm Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 For an international student, that score seems fine. In general, I doubt the AWA would offset anything -- some schools don't even use the AWA. However, I think your Verbal score is good enough for your purposes.
