generally_concerced Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Hey guys, I just took the GREs today. Didn't do as well as I hoped, but just wanted to see where I stack up and maybe suggestions for masters/phD programs for molecular biology. I'm a senior at a small liberal arts school, and I know my GPA/GRE are low, I do have a decent amount of research and good recommendations GPA: ~2.9 GRE: V- 158 Q-156 rough scores Really anything helps, Thanks
iowaguy Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 I think with a low GPA you should try to knock the GRE out of the park. That is one way to make up for a low GPA... And, of course, solidifying a good relationship with a professor who shares your research interest and will vouch for you during the admissions process (your research experience & recommendations will help with that). Personally, if I had a 2.9 GPA, I would be studying my ass off for the GRE... Iowa Guy
MJordano Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 A 3.0 is the minimum for a lot of programs. I would retake the GREs and really study to improve them (maybe sign up for a class?). Taking the biology subject test and doing really well will also help you if your major GPA is lower.
