MGS Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Hi everyone, Is it possible to publish an article while not affiliated with an institution/organization? Are journal editors biased against individuals who submit without an affiliation? Thanks. victor.s.andrei 1
sareth Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I would imagine this varies wildly by field. You might want to try the sub-forum specific to your discipline.
Wizrad Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 It's perfectly possible in general. You give your home address instead of your institution. As to whether editors are biased, that would probably depend on the journal in question.
mandarin.orange Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I've seen it a few times in my field (geosciences), though it's rare - it's an uphill battle to publish without the resources of a university for lab space, funds, library access, etc. Kudos to you for getting a complete manuscript done! For the two examples I remember off the top of my head, one had his own science/consulting firm and listed that, and the other listed alternatively her P.O. box or home address on her articles. I heard second-hand that she'd actually retrofit her basement into a fully functioning lab. victor.s.andrei 1
