Kwest Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 So, I attended the LSA summer institute (boulder) and I don't know if I should mention it in my SOP or just leave it for my CV. It was a great experience (obviously ;P) but I don't know if I should work it into my limited word space. I don't want to just list of the classes, but I did get to do and learn about some pretty cool speech manipulation and perception studies while there so maybe I could mention that? But I don't know...That's why I'm coming you! should I or shouldn't I?
fuzzylogician Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 I'd say it shouldn't be a priority in case word limits are an issue, but it won't hurt to mention it in your SOP if you have the space. I agree that you shouldn't just list courses, that's what the CV is for, but you can mention the techniques you learned when you talk about your interests or plans for future work, if it's relevant there. Kwest Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 Thanks. Great advice. It just seemed like something I should squeeze in. I think I'll just talk about the measurement techniques I picked up there. Not too word consumptive but hopefully informative.
VernonDudley Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I went to boulder, too, and I am putting it in my SOP because it explains more of my background (i am not from a known undergrad program) and I think overall it's kind of impressive to go as an undergrad (or so says my advisor)
Kwest Posted October 31, 2012 Author Posted October 31, 2012 yeah, that's kind of why I wanted to get it in somehow...I really only have 2 lines about it. I couldn't spare more room. My SOP is 2 and half pages and I'm really trying to keep it short...I was trying for just 2 pages but I just can't do it! lol
