have any of you converted your textbooks into ebooks?

I'm just curious how practical this is. I just got an iPad and I'd much rather just carry that and a notebook around all day than a bag full of books. I have some professors who will photocopy and send us chapters of the book as a PDF early in the semester when the bookstore is out of the textbook. They'll send us like 50-100 pages. I'm not sure how long it took them. Have any of you done this?

I've heard of some copy stores that will do this for you for a fee, not the box stores. I am sure there's some copy right issues there
