then150 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I am about to complete bachelors degrees in Anthropology as well as Elementary Education here in the United States, and I am planning on moving back to New Zealand to begin grad school sometime in 2013. I am more interested in continuing in the field of Anthropology than I am in entering the workforce as an elementary teacher. Although if all of my future study plans fail I don't mind teaching, its better than most other jobs! Right now I feel as if I have too many interests in the field of anthropology, and I need to begin focusing my sights on a particular goal. One of my interests happens to be archaeology, and I like the opportunities that a career in the field could provide. I would like to possess a specific skill, or set of skills that would make me highly valuable in the job market. I also do not want to have universities as my only employment options. I wouldn't mind the possibility of being a professor at some point in my career, but I would like to undertake something that is of a practical nature as well. So basically I want to do something that is practical, and I want opportunities to travel and/or live in other countries. I realize that I need to have some specialist skills or knowledge that will propel me forward into a career once I finish grad school. I have been looking at learning GIS technology, and I think it is widely used in the field of Archaeology today. What other skills are employers in the field looking for these days? Any information or other ideas that anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. I am going to invest a considerable amount of time and money on my education, so I want to make a very informed decision!
