pleasestaycalm Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 For the universities that require hard copies of the LORs, how does one go about providing recommenders that are in another country with ample materials (postage/currency of their own country) to do so? I thought about sending my recommenders (that are in Britain) American currency but it seems like this could be misconstrued as indolence on my part for making them convert American dollars into British pounds in order to purchase stamps for the letters... Would it be poor etiquette to simply ask the recommenders to provide the stamps of their own country if I provide them with a pre-addressed envelope? Thanks!
fuzzylogician Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 That's probably just fine. When I had to ask an overseas recommender for a letter I ended up getting a friend to buy local postage and I reimbursed my friend. If you don't have that option, I'm sure the prof will understand. Most likely they can use their university's post services so it won't cost them anything at all but even if it does, I'm sure they'll be willing to pay. You can offer to reimburse them if they'd like; it's a nice thing to do but I really doubt they'll take you up on that. pleasestaycalm 1
Lud Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I am surprised by your question. In my experience all referees use their university s postal services indeed, so it's not a problem. Maybe you should just ask the administration.
