summary of research topic for international development masters application?

Hello,

I am planning on applying to various international development programs in Canada for masters. Two of the universities ask for some sort of research summary as part of their application:

Queen's University, masters Global Development Studies: A summary of a major research topic and a potential supervisor,

Simon Fraser University, masters in International Studies, stream International Development: A one page statement of research interest

I was wondering if anyone has an advice as to what should be included in this summary of research topic, or if there are any template or samples available? I am confused as to how this is suppose to look like and what should be included.
