rocky2 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Hi there one of my recommenders close research partner has become the president of a top 10 graduate college in USA  (i'm from mech...but i think it is top 10 in many fields)..they have written a book together, a NASA proj together..., numerous papers together.. but in my SOP i have not mentioned the name of the president-to-be...since i have even applied to that college [ ] feels very sad... my chances would have been multiplied if i had mentioned his name....as then they wld understand that my recommender is a trustworthy person.(my education till now is from a 3rd country.) .he has given me a good reco also is there anything I can do....? shld i sent a letter to graduate program telling to add one more sentence in my SOP?
Yellow#5 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I don't think it's necessary to mention it, because admission committees do look closely at the person recommending you. They'll notice your recommender without you pointing it out. They may not know he's a friend of the university president, but that doesn't matter as much as how well know he is in his field.
jackassjim Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 You should ask your recommender to make a phone call for you. If he really likes you, he might do it.
rocky2 Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 sorry i didn't get u? phone call to whom ? and for what? :| dnt tell me to ask him to call president 2 give me admission if they look at recommenders profile, it will be helpful as his many research projs and his book published by CRC/ taylor n franscis were with that president only....and all that will be evident from his CV, publications....
