Anyone else here thinking of going to UCLA? It would probably be a great place for me academically, although I don't have first-year funding. I live about an hour east and visited in the fall and interviewed with a professor. Now, it was a stressful day and my SO and I kept getting lost, but SO strongly disliked the neighborhood/city and I felt much the same way. Anyone care to discuss the positive aspects of the surrounding area and campus?

I am leaning towards accepting my offer to UCLA's MLIS program. I have lived in LA most of my life and will say that the area around UCLA can best be characterized as congested. Parking is a drag. The 405 freeway tends to crawl. Westwood Village is a far cry from its charming heyday. Probably the best thing about the UCLA area is that it is near so many different areas. Los Angeles is a huge, sprawling, incredibly diverse place. From the hipster neighborhoods of Los Feliz and Silverlake, to the downtown LA art scene, to the endless array of shops, restaurants, nightclubs and theaters, to the numerous beach communities, there is something for nearly everyone. Also on the plus side, UCLA is unquestionably a very fine school with high name recognition in academia, a strong alumni association and high job placement. I believe it is also a bargain.

I've just accepted an offer at UCLA! Anyone else going to be starting this Fall? Am now about to embark on a house hunt! Housing seems to be a bit pricey from what I can tell with university housing costing around $900! Is this what other people have been finding too?

Hello all, I will be attending UCLA this fall, and yes, housing does seem on the pricier side. I am expecting to pay around $1,000 a month for a modest apartment on one of the bus lines that goes to campus.
