surfer Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 My undergraduation is in Production engineering (from India). My CGPA is 8.8/10. I am interested graduate studies in computer science. I have taken 2 courses in programming, 1 course in engineering algorithms, 1 course in microcontroller during my undergraduation. I have also completed Stanford's free online courses available at Stanford engineeering everywhere. Recently I have completed Machine Learning course with Coursera for which I will be getting a certificate from the professor. Currently I am working on building my search engine project As I was enginnering major I have completed most of the required mathematics courses including college level calculus, linear algera, numerical methods. My GRE score is 319 (Q=164, V= 155, A=3.5). My IELTS score is 7.5. I want to pursue MS in computer science. Can you please suggest me some universities who will consider my application despite the fact that my undergraduate degree is not in computer science. I have found universities which are listed below. Please provide a comment on that.University of ChicagoSanta Clara UniversityIllinois Institute of TechnologyRITNorth Eastern UniversityUniversity of Massachhusetts BostonUniversity of Illinois Springfield Please suggest if I can apply for other higher ranked universities. surfer 1
dat_nerd Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 Most universities will consider you without an undergraduate degree in computer science. Each university does, however, have a list of topics you should know before applying to their program. A good next step would be to email admissions coordinators or professors at the universities you are considering and asking for their advice. I imagine that most will want you to take computer science classes as a post-undergrad student.
natrajan Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Since you are from Production engineering, it is unlikely that you had done courses in CS or related subject. "Cross Applications" are difficult, if there is no relevant background. You need to check each university's admission requirements about the courses you had done. Also check if the university will be allowing you to take these missed courses during graduation.
