Thinker123 Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 We all are familiar with the frustration that may be encountered after discovering a typo too late. I know that one may resubmit a sop or a least utter a hint to the admissions committee. I am now unsure whether or not I should in the following case: Harvard economics sop, first paragraph. Instead of "an", the final version incorrectly stated "a". So in total it is stated as:"...a extraordinary...". Should I contact admissions because of this? Thank you. Regards
Tolman's Rat Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I had two similar errors that I found in two separate applications. One read "at cognitive level" and the other read "the substantial importance" I wouldn't worry about it. I've contacted grad admissions, they said the adcomm might not even notice it, and if they did, are they really going to deny someone that is a perfect fit because of a silly little typo that doesn't at all reflect the writing competency of the applicant? In all likelihood, no, so it's not something that will bring your application down. You could contact them and ask, because obviously no errors would be better than this one error, but I think you'll get a similar reply to the one I received.
khaled Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 I discovered similar minor typos in 3 of my SOP's. Sent an email to the admissions office saying I uploaded the wrong file (without mentioning it has typos), and asked them nicely to replace it with the attached one, and then I hoped for the best. If they replace it, fine, if not, I still did not tell them what's wrong with my file. Btw, didn't have a reply yet, since the emails were sent on the weekend.
khaled Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 as an update, 2 schools replied. One of them replaced SOP and the other one did not (they said my submission was final).
