brandonsimpson Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I applied to a MA program in hispanic linguistics at Indiana University in April 2012. I currently have a job teaching high school Spanish (which I'm not terribly fond of), and this wait is driving me insane. I need to know if I'm accepted or not so I can make plans for the following year. I feel good about chances of getting in. I had a French professor in undergrad who practically begged me to go into linguistics, and she also wrote me a LOR. I don't have a question really; I just wanted to see who else is anxious about the wait.

I don't have a question really; I just wanted to see who else is anxious about the wait. This is probably not the best way, but something that's helping me with the wait is looking up bad things about your intended career The wait is much more bearable and rejection is much less of a blow if you can tell yourself, "I didn't want to go in the first place." So I look up umemployment rates, issues within the field, etc etc. For me, I applied to clinical psych programs, and knowing about the internship crisis, post-doc hours, lack of new jobs, long years, etc etc is making me want to consider a different career. Of course, I'm still waiting on the decisions and would be ecstatic to get accepted, but I think knowing "the other side" takes the acceptance off the pedestal knowing that every career has its cons. I don't necessary recommend this, but it's helping me at least. practical cat and mewtoo 1 1
