Hello, I'm a highschool senior with a hard decision to make. I was accepted into both San Diego State University and University of North Carolina at Greensboro as an anthropology major, but I can't figure out which one has a better anthropology program. I know San Diego is a great research college but North Carolina is close and I have heard fantastic reports about the school. I am also interested in study abroad programs. Anything anyone can tell me would be a great help. Thank you so very much!

I wish I could be more helpful, but I don't know anything about either of their programs. Do you know exactly what you want to study? If you do, look into the research that they're doing. For instance, if you want to study cultural anthropology, see which school is doing more in that field. Good luck!

Hello! This forum is actually for graduate student discussions, so I'm not sure too many people are in a similar boat!

I can however say that for an undergraduate degree, your education will be much more general (first two years of four you are often not taking major-related courses, anyway!). The best advice I can give you is to get ahold of a coursebook that gives listings of courses on offer + descriptions. Look at the Anthro listings & see which one offers more courses that interest you. Also look at the websites to see which courses have actually been offered in the past few years; often a University lists a course as existing but it hasn't been offered in 5+ years. Lastly, look at the lecturers/professors in the department and see if their research interests are similar to those of your own.

I had a friend in the MA Anthropology program at SDSU and really loved it, so I think it's a great place. I don't know anything about the NC school though.

Best of luck! :)
