MammaD Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Has anyone used it to supplement a funded program? If I get a funded position, can I still have the VA pay my tuition and a housing stipend? It's a benefit I've earned and it can help the school, too (they'll get a tuition payment they might have waived for me?).
Guest Gnome Chomsky Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) Yes, if you use your P9/11 and the tuition is already covered you will still get the 100% basic housing allowance. I'm still in undergrad but my tuition is fully covered because of a scholarship, but I still get $2,000 a month housing. The same applies for grad school. It's only good for 36 months though. Oh, and you get $75 per class for textbooks. You get paid on the 1st of the month for the previous month. For example, the Spring semester where I am in Miami starts on January 7th, so on February 1st I will get paid for 3/4 of the month of January, which is about $1,500. But then on March 1st I will get paid the full $2,000 for the month of February. The textbook stipend comes a few days before the semester begins in one lump sum. Edited January 6, 2013 by JoeyBoy718
MammaD Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 Thanks so much! This is great news. I am using it now for my MPH, but will have 28 more more months left after this year (I did the first year while on active duty and used tuition assistance and scholarship money to pay). I am full-time so I get $500/semester for books and supplies. It's been the only reason I can afford to be in school since leaving active duty. Thanks for your help!
