Well, there doesn't seem to be any threads for ChE applicants this year so I thought I would start one. I've seen a few acceptances on the results search so maybe people have news to share.

I applied for PhD programs at: MIT, Princeton, JHU, CMU, GA Tech, U Delaware, UPenn, Yale, Rutgers, and Columbia.

I submitted my apps in early December and so far I haven't heard anything back except an email from MIT stating that they processed my application and it was complete. Most of the deadlines for my programs are in January so I'm not expecting to hear anything until the end of this month or early next month, but who knows!

Anyone else?

Greetings,

I applied for the following: GA Tech, Florida, NC State, U. Michigan, Wisconsin - Madison, UC Berkeley, MIT, U. Delaware, UT Austin, and Minnesota - Twin Cities. With the exception of the Minnesota app, I also sent all mine in around early December. I got accepted to Michigan and NC State --- I reckon we MAY hear from Delaware soon. Even though their deadline was Jan. 4 I believe, their website says they have "rolling admission" and they seem to review the apps as they come in.

Keep your eyes peeled. NC State didn't send me an e-mail notifying me of an admission decision --- I logged back onto the "ApplyYourself" database today, and voila, there was my acceptance letter. Best of luck to you.

I applied to many of the same schools in addition to several others. Have not heard back and am not expecting to hear back till late January - at the earliest. UT Austin is número uno on my list. I applied to Minnesota and Wisconsin but have little to no desire to attend. Graduated 2 years ago and started work immediately as a process engineer. 3.8 gpa, 1 published paper as an undergrad, good extracurriculars, good quant score low verbal, good letters of Rec (stayed in touch with college professors as I knew I wanted to go back to school), 2 years work experience, graduated from your run of the mill state school - nothing special. I'll visit frequently to see if you guys/gals?! Get accepted anywhere. Good luck.

I was accepted by JHU last week. They're offering me a scholarship in addition to the standard stipend so I'm feeling positive about my chances although I haven't heard anything else yet.

Hi All

I am new to gradcafe and hence would request you all to forgive me if I'm going about it the wrong way, but I found this discussion to be the most apt for what I want to ask.

I have applied for a masters leading to a doctoral degree [in essence I have mostly applied for direct PhD-s in absence of that term] at NUS Singapore, Rensselaer PI, University of Florida Gainesville, Yale, UMass Amherst, U Rochester, Penn State, UPenn and Columbia.

Right now I have a bachelors in chemical engineering. My degree is called Bachelor of Technology and I received it from a prestigious T-school in India - the National Institute of Technology at Nagpur, India. My CGPA is 7.26 on a scale of 10 and I have some research work on a)Nanomaterials- their synthesis, characterization and use| and b)Heat exchangers- design, fabrication and optimization. My extracurriculars are quite nice and I have more than 18 months of work-ex as a systems engineer.

My GRE score is 322/340 [164 Q, 158 V, 5.0 AWA] and TOEFL score is 113/120.

Today I received a rejection from UPenn. While I wait for the others, I need to ask someone whether I have made a mistake in applying for PhD-s rather than Masters first? I have  made it amply clear in my SOP that I would continue to a PhD as it is, and hence, I seek an admission to that, without having to go about it in steps. Does that make sense or am I going to get rejected by all the universities?

Could someone please clarify?

International Student with American Master's

applied to washington-Seattle, Utah, Notre Dame, Florida and NCSU

I already have a master's and am working in research from 4+ years. I have patent but no publications. PhD application have a confusing ride. Done with apps jus on or a day before the deadline.. missed priority deadline for seattle by 2 weeks so am not hopeful about it. Am hoping to receive a admit at least from one place :P

Hey all,

New to gradcafe. I am an international student and will be graduating with a masters from a pretty well ranked state university this May. I have applied for a PhD program in 5 universities - georgia tech, JHU, UMD-CP, Colorado school of mines and Lehigh.

I haven't heard back from any of these schools but every prof I mailed in all 5 schools replied to me in October 2012. Mailed them again in December saying application has been submitted and I have strongly suggested that I would love to work with them in it and a couple of them replied.

And oh, I have a bad grade in Transport which I am afraid, will ruin my chances. Moreover, I haven't submitted any paper as yet, though I am writing one. Good GRE scores and decent undergrad GPA.

I am getting pretty nervous, pessimistic and tensed right now. Is there anything at all any of you would suggest I do at this point?

Hi, if I'm understanding you correctly, what you've done should be fine. It is neither required nor typical to obtain a Master's degree before obtaining a Ph.D. I hope you have heard some good news back from these schools.

Update: I've have also been accepted into Delaware (1/25) , Georgia Tech (1/31), and Florida (2/1). I find it funny (in a desparate sort of way) that all five schools I've yet to hear from are also the five highest ranked schools I applied to (MIT, Berkeley, U. Minnesota - Twin Cities, UT Austin, U. Wisconsin - Madison). A friend of mine (who is actually in the running for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship) got accepted to MIT a couple of days back.

By the way, NC State did eventually send me an e-mail notification, just a week after it had already been posted to the online application.

Good luck everyone.

I applied to Delaware for a PhD in Chemical Engineering for fall 2011 and I did not get a decision too for long. Pasting the reply I got from the department below, hope you find it useful.

Thank you for writing regarding your application. The department's admission committee has reviewed 400 + applications and is now awaiting responses from those to whom an offer of admission was extended. If the department needs additional students after all responses are in, a few more offers may be extended. If you have not received an offer of admission or a rejection, it means you are on a wait list. No additional waitlist information is available.

We will notify you as soon as a decision is made.

Sincerely,

(This was on 11th April 2011, they sent me a reject on 21st April 2011)

New here!

I applied to

UT Austin - Rejected

Washington University in St. Louis - Accepted

University of California, Riverside - Accepted

Actually a BS Chemist, but graduated in 2011 and work now for a chemical company, Eastman. Learned quickly that a BS Chemistry degree gets me nowhere, and Chem Engr fascinates me. So 2 years of experience, no papers.

GPA3.44

GRE 164 Quant 162 Verbal 4.0 Writing

Glad to have found this resource and looking forward to learning from everyone.

Good luck to all!

Since Giles heard from NC State and Labrett heard from Michigan, I'm going to assume that, at best, I'm on a waiting list, and possibly rejected.

Anyone heard yay or nay from Yale, UConn, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, or Houston??

UT Austin Pet Eng - Accepted
Texas A&M - Accepted
University of Houston - Accepted

Hey CheeAZ, Congrats on UT and TAMU! When did you hear from Houston, and what was their method of notification?

Can I ask what state your from/where you did your undergrad? I, too, applied to UT ChEE (rejected) and Houston (waiting), but I am a Texas native and a friend of mine who is already in grad school told me that those who are not from the state of Texas have a better chance of being accepted to Texas schools because they try to maintain diversity.

Anybody care to weigh in on the validity of that statement? Or was he just trying to make me feel better for not getting into UT?

And CheeAZ, you have a line-up of your preferences yet?

Thanks!
