aspier Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Hello All, Who has heard back from infectious disease PhD programs or PhD and Epid MS/Epid dual degree programs? I've heard back from a few, but am waiting on a couple big ones. I know Berkeley usually takes a while (notifications about interviews have been at the end of Jan in previous years), but I think I missed out on BPH at Harvard since I havent heard from them (though no one else has said they've received interview offers on the results). Below is my list, please let me know if you've heard from any others! Harvard School of Public Health Biological Sciences in Public Health - waiting University of Michigan PIBS Micro & Immuno PhD and Hospital and Molecular Epid MS - interview offered Northwestern Life Sciences and Public Health PhD/MPH - interview offered University of Washington MCB PhD/ MS Epid - interview offered Johns Hopkins Bloomberg SPH Molecular Microbiology and Immunity PhD - interview offered Berkeley SPH - Infectious Diseases and Immunity PhD- waiting Georgetown Global Infectious Diseases PhD - waiting Pitt Infectious Diseases and Microbiology PhD - waiting a little about myself, since I know I'm interested in other applicants - 3.73 GPA from top tier public school & on full ride scholarship (probably doesn't matter?) - writing an honors thesis in chemical biology Microbiology major, Science, Technology & Society minor 164 verbal/ 167 quant / 4 writing national award semi finalist 2 summer fellowships very strong letters about research/class work/personal character current research in chemical biology/ natural product biosynthesis Also have research experience in microbial ecology/bioenergy Also have research experience in Zambia investigating the efficacy of HIV/AIDS preventive measures programs I know my formatting is terrible - I'm new, sorry!
aspier Posted January 29, 2013 Author Posted January 29, 2013 harvard rejected, but Berkeley invited me for an interview. However, Berkeley is not paying for flights (only hotel). I find this pretty odd, maybe because its a SPH? Has anyone else experienced this?
globalhealth9 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 any updates here? particularly for the georgetown program? the website now says responses in feb-march...so, soon! other than that i haven't heard anything back.
VBD Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Only some SPH's can cover for expenses (Harvard, Columbia, Yale, just to name a few), and for others it's department specific. Sorry, I'm sure public health schools always wish they could cover for potential students. Biology programs usually do cover for you, supposedly. You'd named a non-ASPH schools (NU) but that might not even matter depending on what you want to do post-MPH portion. Also, congrats! Most people I know who get an interview offer from NU's program got acceptances. * congratulatory high-fives fellow infectious dis lover*
